Beechcraft 1900D
The 1900D is the last and largest version of Beechcraft's 19-seat airliner. Beechcraft raised the cabin roof to 1.80 m, so passengers walk to their seats standing upright, which is rare at this size. It flies on two Pratt & Whitney Canada PT6A-67D engines of 1,279 shp, pressurised, in all weather, and it's happy on runways of 1,200 m.
It's also the aircraft ALS grew up on. Our Technical Director took his type course on it in 1997, and several of our senior captains flew it for more than a decade.
Stand-up cabin
1.80 m of headroom down the aisle. Airline seats that recline, with armrests, tray tables and storage under the seat.
Short runways
At full weight at sea level it needs 1,162 m to take off and 850 m to land. Plenty of Kenyan strips are that long.
Passengers or cargo
A 4.96 m³ aft hold for 739 kg of bags. Or a combi layout, with passengers in front and freight behind.
Home-grown crews
We train and check our 1900D pilots in-house, with our own simulator instructors and examiners.

That's with 19 passengers and a 100 nm alternate. Lokichogio, Lodwar and Entebbe are inside the ring. With fewer passengers it goes much further: the ferry range is 1,245 nm.
